Santa Maria Navarrese
Santa Maria Navarrese, a village in the county of Baunei, is located in the central part of the east coast of the island, close to the breathtaking bays of Cala Sisine, Cala Mariolu and Cala Goloritzé. As soon as you arrive in Santa Maria Navarrese, you will be captivated by the romantic streets leading along the coast with the turquoise sea, with benches that invite you to contemplate and observe the silhouettes of white sails on the water. The pebbly beach transitions towards the south to a beach with coarser sand. The Church of Saint Maria of Navarre, dating from the 11th century, and the Spanish Tower, built in the 17th century to guard the coast, represent the main historical monuments of the city. A terrace has been built in the shade of pine trees and a dominant tower, which offers a charming view of the bay and is a frequent destination for day and evening walks. According to legend, the church is named after the Princess of Navarre, who had it built as an expression of gratitude to the Holy Virgin Mary. Of the natural beauties in the area, we recommend visiting Cala Sisine beach, the pearl of Orosei Bay, with two rocky outcrops on both sides. Then the shallow waters of bays Cala Mariolu, Cala Follo, Cala Goloritzé with turquoise sea and white sand, and Cala Luna, which is said to be among the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean Sea. The Mediterranean scrub, together with the massive trunks of oak, juniper and pine standing out over the cliffs, contrasts with the waves below. Mouflons, falcons, golden eagles and seagulls have chosen this still wild place for their stay and as a place where they give birth to their offspring. Nearby is also an unspoiled landscape of unique charm – Baunei – limestone walls, rising steeply from the sea, which is indescribably breathtaking here, with water as green as fresh sprouts to as blue as the sky, definitely among the places that you simply cannot miss in Sardinia.
