Costa Rei

The tourist destination of Muravera, Costa Rei is located on the south-eastern coast of Sardinia and stretches along an impressive panoramic road, offering an uninterrupted succession of enchanting sensations. You can get to Costa Rei through one of the most captivating places in Sardinia: Sarrabus – a town with about five thousand inhabitants, spread out in the valley of the river Flumendosa, heading towards the foot of Mount Nieddu up to the river mouth. It is located in one of the most beautiful places of the Mediterranean, with beautiful beaches, lakes around which you can take a trip by bike or on horseback, with the Baccu Arrodas forest, perfect for trekking among centuries-old oaks and with gardens full of citrus trees. The beauty of this area is enhanced by the profile of the Sette Fratelli mountain complex, which dominates the Park (il Parco), a precious natural oasis that is an ideal place for relaxing walks. Between the mountains, the lush hills and the sea, where the reflections of all shades of blue mix, thick Mediterranean vegetation sometimes obstructs the view of the magical corners of the Costa Rei, such as Cala Pira: a small bay surrounded by dunes of fragrant junipers, made even more beautiful by the silhouette of the Aragonese tower overlooking to the crystal sea. In the grip of two small cliffs, protected by a dense pine forest, there is the white beach of Cala Sinzias, only a short distance from the town of Costa Rei; charming tourist center overlooking a long stretch of white sand, a sea full of changing colors, passing from emerald green to dark blue. Ten kilometers of breathtaking beaches, an ideal destination for any type of holiday, offer shallow waters and a diverse range of tourist services: hotels and restaurants of excellent quality. Beyond Costa Rei lies a fertile agricultural area producing a wide range of excellent organic products. In the fields cultivated by semi-free prisoners of the Castiadas Penal Colony (Colonia Penale di Castiadas), there is a building from 1877, today a cultural center and museum, that is definitely worth a visit. Nearby is Muravera, a lively town known for its year-round hospitality. The colors, sounds and aromas of Sardinia’s main citrus city merge in this corner of the south-east coast of Sardinia, presenting traditions, attractive landscapes and excellent gastronomic products. In spring, starting with the Citrus Festival (la Sagra degli Agrumi), the whole country takes on a great commitment: their task is to make the world aware of the endless historical variations and folklore, elevated by the strong cultural sense of Sardinian traditions.
