October
Autumn colours the inland a bright amber colour, creating an impressive background for the Cortes Apertas (“open courtyards”) as part of the Barbagia Autumn festival. Locals open their doors to visitors and present the most typical products of their region. You thus have a great opportunity to taste traditional delicacies such as grilled piglet, lamb skewers, maloreddus or pane frattau, and admire or buy handicrafts made of wood, cork, iron or leather. In Aritzo the scent of chestnuts will guide you through the weekend event, in Ottana you can see famous carnival masks, in Desulo you will appreciate colourful, hand-embroidered costumes and in Tonnara you can taste the first-class Turkish delight nougat.
In addition to these important events, in the tenth month you can also experience celebrations focused on specific delicacies in particular – such as snails in Gessico, polenta in Arborea or calamari in Porto Rotondo.
Temperatures reaching 25 degrees invites all enthusiasts for tourism and sports, but even the swimming in the sea is no exception in the month of October.
