Solemnity of Saint Efisio Martyr
On the anniversary of his martyrdom, the Arch fraternity honours this saint with a solemn procession with a simulacrum attributed to Giuseppe Antonio Lonis. The hero of this anniversary is therefore not the May simulacrum, but the one created in the 18th century by Giuseppe Antonio Lonis, also used in the ceremonies of Maundy Thursday and Easter Monday: the work depicts Sant’Efisio at the moment of the apparition of the luminous cross in the sky, which remained imprinted on the palm of his right hand, celebrating his conversion to Christianity. On this occasion, the beautiful statue by the artist from Senorbì is traditionally decorated with a colourful plume and bow and two red cuffs, symbols of his martyrdom.
