Waterfalls

When people think of Sardinia, most often they think of the sea and beaches. But the truth is that up to ninety larger or smaller rivers cross the island and in many places they create magical pools, tropical oases and impressive waterfalls. On the west coast, the course of the Salighes River ends with the impressive waterfall Capo Nieddu, falling from a height of 40 meters directly into the sea. Not far away, about 30 km inland, in the territory of Santu Lussurgiu, which is famous for its fountains with seven springs, you can find the fabulous Sos Molinos, a cascading waterfall set in wild nature and accessible by a short walk from the main road. In the northern part of the island, there are several waterfalls worth mentioning – the Triunlintas in the territory of the Martis municipality, the easily accessible Mularza Noa near Bolotana and the waterfalls on the Rio Pitrisconi river near San Teodoro, which can be reached by an hour-and-a-half long trekking. On the east coast, near the village of Ulassai, you can find an an impressive spectacle in the form of the Lequarci Falls during heavy rains. With a height of 70 meters, they are considered the most impressive on the island. Just a few hundred meters further there are the Lecorci Falls, cascading into the landscape. In the blue zone, which lies in the Ogliastra region there is a number of natural gems, such as Su Stampu e Su Turrunu, a unique waterfall falling through a rock hole. Or a just few kilometers away there is the oasis of Sa Stiddiosa, which can be reached by a rather demanding descent but which will reward you with its unique tropical appearance. Still in the same area, you can find another rarity, the San Valentino waterfall, hidden in the middle of the picturesque village of Sadali. In Laconi, you can admire the Aymerich Park with several springs and the dominating Cascata Maggiore. In the southeast, in the territory of Villaputzu, you can participate on an excursion to Sa Buddidorgia or Su Fossu de su para, where there is an impressive spring flowing down the smooth rock and creating natural pools below. In the Sette Fratelli Park, which is the largest on the island, you can make a stop at the water feature of the same name on the way to St. Peter’s Church. Further south, near the village of Gergei, you can admire Is Corropus waterfall while wandering through nature. Inland in the southwest, the municipality of Villacidro is surrounded by the Gutturu Mannu Park, a magnificent work of nature that hides a number of impressive itineraries, including the Mura Mannu or Rio Lanas waterfalls. A little closer to the village is Sa Spendula, a popular attraction for canyoning enthusiasts.
