World Rally Championship

The World Rally Championship has been a tradition in Sardinia since 2004, when it replaced the original location in Sanremo, and is one of the most anticipated sporting events on the island every year. A four-day meeting, usually at the turn of May and June, is characterized by fast rides and adrenaline, hosts riders from all over the world and attracts the attention of thousands of tourists and fans. In recent years, the race routes have been concentrated mainly in the northern part of the island, but for several years they were combined, with passages through the capital Cagliari in the south and the city of Alghero in the northwest. The last edition in 2023 was held in the northeast and the competitors had their base camp in Olbia. The race is run on gravel and passes through villages and towns. Places for spectators are at predetermined locations for all stages, and the results are always announced always in the hosting city. Traditionally the Czech Republic is represented as well, competitor Jan Kopecký finished in 3rd place in 2010 with his Fabia, and a year later Martin Prokop was 10th with his Ford Fiesta.
