Villasimius

Villasimius is a unique destination on the south-east coast of Sardinia – clear sea, white beaches, nightlife and excellent food make this area an ideal holiday destination where every wish will come true. Villasimius is the gem of south Sardinia, a dreamy tourist destination. In winter it is populated by around four thousand of residents, during the summer though this amount multiplies. The intense colors of the sea, granite rocks with little bays, a gradual entrance with a soft sandy bottoms, long stretches of sandy bays surrounded by green hill – the landscape as if from commercial will awaken a sense of uniqueness in you. The coast here is made up of a crown of beaches, separated from each other by small rocky outcrops and the headland of Capo Carbonara. From Capo Boi, the southern border of the protected coastal area, along the panoramic road that leads here, you will find countless breathtaking beaches such as Porto sa Ruxi, Campus and Campulongu, all surrounded by turquoise seas, white sand dunes and lush Mediterranean vegetation. Besides the modern tourist port, on the western side of Cape Capo Carbonara, romantic bays are hidden among the rocks, one of the most beautiful of which is Cala Caterina. Towards the east you can discover breathtaking natural pearls – beaches such as Porto Giunco, with the Notteri lagoon behind, which is the nesting place of pink flamingos and other rare bird species. From the top of the promontory with the watchtower that dominates the landscape, you will have an incredible view: a double blue areas of water in different color shades, practically two seas, separated from each other by a strip of white sand that resembles powdered sugar. Towards the north, you will be captivated by the beaches of Simius and Traias, as well as Rio Trottu and Manunzas, which are adjacent to the famous Punta Molentis, another jewel of the Villasimius area. From Capo Boi to the island of Serpentara, through the islets dei Cavoli and various shallows that have become a graveyard of ships and boats for centuries, stretches out the protected seaside site of Capo Carbonara, which directly invites you to discover the rich underwater life, plants, fish and animals of all sizes and colors. In Villasimius, lovers of shopping, gastronomy (mainly based on fish and seafood), but also culture, history and archeology will find what they are looking for. From the Bronze Age, the nuraghes tell their stories – the necropolis Accu Is Traias (from the 1st to the 3rd century AD) and Cruccuris (from the 1st to the 2nd century AD), near the Roman baths of Santa Maria, but also the site of Cuccureddus, already inhabited during the Phoenician-Punic Wars, and later under the rule of the Roman Empire. You must not miss the archaeological museum, which also tells the stories of underwater discoveries – for example, the statue of the Virgin Mary, the work of Pinuccio Sciola, in honor of which the Festa del Naufrago is held in the city every year at the end of July, with an impressive procession leading to the sea.
